As difficult as it is to believe, it has been a decade since Heath Ledger died at the too young age of 28. The star of such contemporary classics as Brokeback Mountain and The Dark Knight (his portrayal of The Joker won him a posthumous Academy Award), Ledger rose from an early career in Australia to become a global favorite. With each successive role, it seemed like the actor and director just kept getting more talented.
And then it all ended abruptly.
On January 22, 2008, Ledger died unexpectedly of accidental intoxication from prescription drugs, leaving behind a young daughter (whose mother is Michelle Williams), family members, and thousands of fans who continue to mourn him, even ten years on. Today we reflect upon the fact that although his life was brief, it was filled with talent that will continue to stand the test of time.
